The House & Garden
Imagine a large, airy house, white-washed in the regional style, and renovated to provide generously-proportioned accommodation (230 sqm) across two floors. It is well-equipped and simply decorated and furnished, retaining the strong, calm and unvarnished character of the building.
Downstairs, the front door opens into the salón, the first of the two livingrooms, where there is also a woodburning stove for use in the winter. Off this room is a well-equipped kitchen which leads on to the dining room from where there is direct access to the rear garden. Two of the bedrooms are also downstairs (both have double beds and one of them could additionally accommodate a folding bed for a child), as is a separate toilet.
Upstairs, the original beams are exposed, giving the upper livingroom a great sense of height. Two small balconies off the living room overlook the rear garden and wide views across the surrounding rolling hills which are mostly planted with olives. A large desk/working table in one part of the room and a soft sitting area in another make this a versatile space and one spacious enough to be comfortably used by a number of people at the same time. There is also scope to curtain off part of the living room to create additional sleeping space if needed. The third double bedroom, large bathroom with bath and shower and artist’s studio are also upstairs. The latter is a large basic room with the same high beams as the rest of the upper floor and three windows facing different ways. It is equipped with an easel and a table for messy work and is available at a small extra charge. If you would like to use the studio, please talk to us – we are happy to advise on its suitability for your purposes.
The front garden runs the full length of the facade and faces the quiet street, providing an opportunity to listen as the world goes by but, screened behind a fragrant live wall of oleanders, jasmine, and roses, the world tends to be oblivious to the listener. There is a small sitting area which provides welcome late afternoon and evening sunshine in the cooler months and deep shade during hot summer afternoons.
The rear garden is fully enclosed and completely private. Clematis, begonias, passion fruit and solanum ramble across the whitewashed and stone walls, fruit trees provide varied foliage, lavenders spill out of the flower bed. There are covered and open areas on the large terrace and elsewhere in the garden for sitting and playing. Or reading, eating, painting, sleeping, doing yoga – whatever takes your fancy. For young children we can provide a splashpool in the summer.
The amenities and equipment include a well-equipped kitchen, wood-burning stove, washing machine, iron, ironing board, TV, DVD player and radio/CD player. We can also provide the following on request: cot, high chair, baby bath, children’s splashpool. You are very welcome to make use of the books, maps, DVDs, CDs and toys in the house.
